Height Of AmFinance Building, Tropicana

3/18/2013

I received an order to lift air conditioner units onto the rooftop of the AMFinance building at Tropicana.

Initial telephone conversation says that the building has 13 floors. By assumption, ground floor takes 5m and the rest of the 12 floors are 3m. Therefore, 5m + (12 x 3m = 36m) = 41m.

Theoretically, a 45ton with full flyjib will be able to do the job since the air conditioner units are only 100kg.

But upon final site survey with the customer and reading the building plan. The height of the building is actually 51m. It has 2 floors which is 5m. One is the ground floor and the other is level 10. Both floors contribute 10m. The rest of the floors added up to 41m (according to building plan). Thus the total height is 51m.

This makes our initial telephone conversation of the 45ton to fail. A 80ton crane was propose.

Lifting Of Small Tank Inside Factory

Date: 6th March 2013

Location:
Factory in Shah Alam.

Job Scope:
A small tank, approximately 2ton needed repair. The tank elevated approximately 40feet from the ground. The tank is also under a roof. There isn't any space in between the tank and the roof.

Picture
Picture
The proposed access road cannot be used as it is only 4m wide. Skylift can access but the crane cannot access. The end decision is to use the access at the other side. But that requires clearing of the stock pile. But that was agreed upon by the customer.
Picture
The solution was proposed by a staff of the factory which is to use a chain block to lower down the tank first. Then the crane lift the lowered tank and lift it down to the ground for repair. For dismantle work, humans are lifted up to the tank height using a skylift.

200Ton Crane With Luffing Jib To Assemble Tower Crane

3/7/2013

Date: 1 March 2013

Location:
Serdang (Bumimetro site)

Job Scope:
To provide crane to assemble tower crane at site. The heaviest part of the tower crane is approximately 4.5ton. Upon site survey, the working radius is 45m. Our proposal to the client is to use a 200ton crane with luffing jib. The crane will have 30m of luffing jib and a 22m main boom. The SWL @45m is 7.1ton

This is more than enough for the job. The only problem is the time needed to assemble the luffing jib. We need approximately 3 day end to end.
Picture
Another option will be to park our crane (170ton crane) at the public road in front of the shop (illustrated in green). This option need not use luffing jib. Only the crane's main boom and 50ton of counterweight. But this problem has another problem with the residents of the shop. A full blockade of the access road is needed.

Upon meeting with the relevant parties, an alternative solution was challenged. "Is there any crane which can do the job while parking at the initial position without using luffing jib?"

Since we don't own a bigger capacity crane. We pass the opportunity.

The solution in the end was a 360ton Tad

Date: 26 Feb 2013

Location:
Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre

Job Scope:
To lift one unit health scanning machine onto the second level of the hospital. The machine weights approximately 11tons. The machine will be lifted from a transportation vehicle onto a "on site platform" connecting to the level 2 of the building.

Obstacles:
Initially, a 45 ton crane is proposed to do the lifting. But upon site survey, truck cranes are too big to enter the proposed parking position. Therefore, the crane parking position have to be position at the parking lot of the neighbouring building. This actually increases the working radius and a 160ton crane will be utilized.

New Working Radius = 28m
Lifting Weight = 11ton
Proposed Crane = 160ton capacity.
Picture
Back alley where the machine will be lifted. But upon surveying, the access road doesn't allow crane to park. The width of the access road is only 5m. The entrance booth and entrance is a S-curve which our 45 ton truck crane cannot access.
Picture
Upon survey of the parking lot at the neighboring building. Access road does allow crane and transport to park.

There is a slight slope at the crane parking position. Therefore, our crew will have to bring in some extra wood for the leveling of the crane.

Site Survery at CSR

Date: 20 Feb 2013

Location: CSR, Shah Alam

Job Scope: Lifting of 1 unit boiler and accessories to its designated position. Lifting to be carried out through a hole on the roof top. Roof is to be dismantle. Boiler is approximately 10 tons.
Picture
Picture
Crane parking position is restricted by the road width. Our crane needs at least 9m for its extension of outrigger but the road is only 7m. Therefore, alternate parking position is needed.
Picture
The alternate parking position is further away from the initial parking position. Which causes the working radius to be 24m instead of 10m.
Picture
Due to the increase in working radius a proposed 160ton crane is needed rather than the initial 80ton crane. The boiler will be lifted according to the diagrams above. It will be lifted from the transportation vehicle to the designated position over and above the pipe rack and then into the roof opening.
Walkie-talkie will be used for communication between rigger and crane operator.
Lifting will be carried out at a later date upon confirmation from customer.
